PaulRetzlaff1.jpg (3774 bytes) BASIC THEORY AND TEST CONSTRUCTION
Presenter: Dr. Paul Retzlaff

This course exposes participants to the underlying psychometrics of the MCMl-lll and MACI tests. An understanding of the tests' behavior in clinical work is a valuable tool in choosing optional treatment strategies for your client.

GeorgeEverly.gif (14240 bytes) BRIEF THERAPY: A MANAGED CARE APPROACH
Presenter: Dr. George Everly

Delivery systems for mental health services have seen a dramatic change in the last several years. Growing emphasis is being placed on brief psychotherapeutic models underscoring symptom-focused therapies. The treatment of personality disorders, however, presents a unique challenge for those utilizing time-limited frameworks. Theodore Millon's biosocial theory of personality disorders represents a perspective on these disorders which may be harnessed to provide a psychotherapeutic framework uniquely suited to time-limited therapy. This approach attempts to avoid the "revolving door" dilemma that often characterizes symptom-focused psychotherapies.

HR.gif (12971 bytes) SUBSTANCE ABUSE ASSESSMENT
Dr. Henry Richards

This course will demonstrate the use of the MCMI-III interpretive reports in treatment for substance abuse and the use of profiles in the supervision of group counselors. A framework will be provided for optimizing the value of the MCMI test assessment of origins, perpetuations, and preferred intervention strategies for addictions. An analysis will be given of the primary biopsychosocial functions of addiction that support drug use in each of the personality disorder prototypes. Clinical formulations of addiction provided by the MCMI-IIl interpretive reports will be examined and suggestions offered as to how to take the best advantage of their insights.

THE MACI TEST: A DYNAMIC ADOLESCENT ASSESSMENT
Presenter: Dr. Robert Tringone

This workshop will focus on the integration of the MACI and projective tests, in particular, the Rorschach and the Thematic Apperception Test. With the MACI test profile as the starting point, a framework will be outlined regarding the polarity and configurations, clinical domains, an perpetuating processes of the personality styles. Through numerous case study presentations, discussions will focus on how to integrate Rorschach variables and TAT themes within the context of the MACI I profile and Millon's personality theory.

The relevant literature will be reviewed and the specifics of the instruments and methodology used in evaluating psychological distress and determining medical and economic costs will be demonstrated. A specific example utilizing data from a cardiac population will be detailed. Finally, the benefits to the practitioner in terms of outcome measurement and practice development will also be discussed. There will also be ample time allotted for addressing questions and discussion.
